Intelog Announces Integrated Operations Planning Process

Intelog and GammaPlan have developed an Integrated Operational Planning process that provides health services the basis for forward planning to match their operational capacity with patient requirements.

The Integrated Operational Planning process was developed from having worked with many health service teams in quality and performance improvement, where we have found there is a clear recurring root cause theme that is beyond:

  • the initial (symptom) level discussed at monthly management meetings (cost control, staffing issues, quality issues, frustration and stress
  • the next level (diagnosis of reactive work patterns, that struggles with activity peaks, and lack of belief that the situation can be improved upon and the disengagement with improvement initiatives)

As a result of our work with health service leadership teams and frontline clinicians and our resultant research we determined that there are fundamental quality system principles required for matching operational capacity to patient demand – the requirement to:

  • Understand the requirements and demand profile of the customers/ patients
  • Establish a quality operating system to match the requirements
  • Manage the system to drive ongoing quality outcomes
  • Have a robust system that acknowledges the dynamic nature of health services and the ever evolving complexity of the patient mix.

The Integrated Operations Planning process  looks beyond the immediate activity, using an ongoing cycle of PDCA that engages medical activity knowledge and internal hospital capacity planning -  e.g. rosters, procedure scheduling, daily management, cleaning, catering, supply.

We have developed and proven an Integrated Operational Planning management process and high visibility information management system that addresses the Issues and Problems associated with:

  • Managing Demand
  • Capacity Planning
  • Silos
  • Forward Planning
  • Bottleneck Planning
  • Workforce Planning
  • Clinical Resource Planning and Management
  • The Right Set of Numbers
  • Managing the Budget
